  12. Posted and emailed.  comp.lang.c++ added to Newsgroups.  Followups to
  13. alt.config, or at least out of marginally-related comp.lang.c, please.
  14.
  15. >Subject: Proposal:  alt.binaries.examples.vb4 , alt.binaries.examples.vcpp , alt.binaries.examples.java
  16.
  17. Without making any comment on the advisability of these specific proposals,
  18. I'd like to suggest that the alt.binaries.comp.* hierarchy would be a more
  19. appropriate place for the suggested groups than creating a new
  20. alt.binaries.examples hierarchy.  In re: the vcpp name(s), I would also
  21. point  out that "+" IS a legal character in newsgroup names, and is in fact
  22. used in  the names of the major C++ newsgroups (comp.lang.c++.moderated,
  23. comp.lang.c++, and comp.std.c++).  Perhaps "vc++" would be a better choice
  24. than "vcpp"?  May I suggest the following names (the second column being an
  25. alternate set of suggestions)?
  26.
  27. EITHER:                                     OR:
  28.
  29. alt.binaries.comp.visual-basic-4            alt.binaries.comp.vb4-examples
  30. alt.binaries.comp.visual-c++                alt.binaries.comp.vc++-examples
  31. alt.binaries.comp.java                      alt.binaries.comp.java-examples
  32.
  33. Either set of names would fall within accepted newsgroup naming conventions
  34. and requirements, and they would be somewhat clearer and better-placed than
  35. the names currently proposed.  The alt.binaries.comp.* hierarchy, long
  36. overdue considering the growth in number of computer-related alt.binaries.*
  37. groups, was started earlier this year with the creation of the newsgroup
  38. alt.binaries.comp.atari8bit.
